Social prescribing, originally developed within the NHS, is a rapidly evolving concept that offers innovative ways to improve health and wellbeing. Now expanding globally, it presents a unique opportunity for the Sport for Development (S4D) sector. Many S4D organisations are already deeply rooted in the communities and individuals that the health sector seeks to engage, often using similar approaches to improve wellbeing.
Open Minds Active, a leader in this field, will share their insights through an engaging, interactive 1.5-hour workshop. Together, we’ll delve into the role of social prescribing, with a special focus on mental health and outdoor physical activity. You’ll gain access to the latest research, evidence-based strategies, and learn how S4D projects can align with and amplify this growing movement.
Join us for this collaborative session to explore fresh opportunities, address potential challenges, and exchange ideas with fellow organisations.

Open Minds Active CIC (OMA) is a social impact organisation working in and around Bristol, UK. Our purpose is to strengthen wellbeing within communities, widen access to nature and create opportunities for excluded citizens. Our mission is to deliver movement based wellbeing activities across Bristol that increase nature connectedness, improve mental health and reduce social isolation. We offer year-round programmes that tackle health inequalities, these include a learn to swim project for global majority women and a social prescribing wild swimming for wellbeing project for people with long term mental and/or physical health conditions from low socio economic areas. We break down barriers to access for those who would not normally access the outdoors.
